Editorial Assistants
As Editorial Assistants, students play a critical role in supporting the Journal editorial team, particularly the Section Editors, in producing and refining content.
“Being an Editorial Assistant at GJIA has helped refine my editorial skills, enhance my attention to detail, and gain insight into the publishing process. It’s also an effective way to build an academic portfolio and professional network.”
Sarah Chao, CAS ’27
The Editorial Role
Editorial Assistants contact prospective authors to solicit article submissions about topics they are interested in.
“As an EA, I have been able to work with experts on a variety of topics ranging from xenophobia in South Africa to water diplomacy in the Middle East. I appreciate the role that GJIA plays in allowing me to dig deeper into my personal interests, but also expand my own understanding of emerging issues.”
Sophia Epley, SFS ’26
The Editorial Process
Editorial Assistants work with authors from topic ideation to the final product, which is then published in the GJIA Online Journal or in one of our annual print editions
“Being an Editorial Assistant and Section Editor for GJIA has significantly improved my editing skills and attention to detail, while immersing me in a passionate community of dedicated students and scholars alike.”
Roman Messali, SFS ’27

Since its founding in 1998, the Georgetown Journal of International Affairs (GJIA) has exemplified the role of students in academic discourse. The Journal has become a vibrant hub where curious undergraduates and graduates converge to challenge the status quo and advance global understanding. At GJIA, we foster a collaborative atmosphere that celebrates diverse perspectives and innovative ideas, making it an inspiring and professional place for students to engage deeply with the world’s most pressing issues and practitioners.
We have finished hiring for the Fall 2025 semester, and the hiring cycle for the Spring 2026 semester will begin in January 2026.
No editorial experience is required to join the Journal, and students from all undergraduate schools and master’s programs are encouraged to apply.
Accommodation requests must be submitted to gjia@georgetown.edu.
